Overview
Salem: The Burned Letter is a single-player interactive story designed with privacy as a core principle. You should be able to lose yourself in the story without any concern about your personal information.
Data We Don't Collect
To be completely clear, Salem does not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Usage analytics or behavior tracking
- Device identifiers for advertising
- The choices you make or the endings you reach
- Any data that could identify you personally
Local Storage
Your progress — your place in the story, the choices behind it, your discovered endings, and your settings — is stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to any server controlled by us or any third party.
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled, Salem syncs your progress and discovered endings across your devices using Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage. This data is managed entirely by Apple, is tied to your own Apple ID, and is not accessible to us. You can disable iCloud sync in your device settings at any time.
In-App Purchases
Salem is free to begin, with an optional one-time purchase to unlock the full story. This is a single non-consumable purchase — there is no subscription. The transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not process, store, or have access to any payment information.
No Account Required
Salem does not require you to create an account or sign in. The story is available immediately after download, with no registration needed.
Offline Functionality
Salem plays completely offline. No internet connection is required. The app itself does not transmit any data to external servers. When online, only Apple's own services (iCloud and the App Store) may communicate as part of their standard functionality.
No Third-Party Services
We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. There are no SDKs in Salem that collect or transmit your data.
Mature Content & Age Rating
Salem dramatizes the Salem witch trials and contains mature themes, and is rated 16+. The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including minors. We do not knowingly collect data from children, because we do not collect data from anyone.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above. Given our commitment to not collecting data, we do not anticipate significant changes.
